Student Ambassador Work Opportunities

Undergraduate Open Days are a key event in the University’s calendar. These events are aimed at students who are thinking about applying to Swansea University. These are the largest events organised by the University, with over 5,000 visitors attending each day. Student Ambassadors play a key role in supporting the delivery of these events.

The Postgraduate Open Days are usually held on a Wednesday afternoon once teaching is completed for the day. The Open Days provide visitors with the opportunity to:

• Speak to members of staff about applications, careers, finance and support for postgraduate students
• Take a campus tour
• Attend talks about postgraduate study at Swansea University, postgraduate funding, and hear from current master’s and PhD students
• Visit academic departments and speak to specialist staff about their course(s) of interest

Virtual Open Days and Subject Sessions take place online and are key events for reaching prospective students who cannot travel to visit campus. When working Virtually, Student Ambassadors will support Q&A webinars, Arena Live chat, and Subject sessions.

Throughout the Year, your faculties will run marketing/recruitment projects to highlight courses, speak about student life, highlight services in the University to applicants interested in coming to Swansea. This is a great opportunity to represent your course and your Faculty by sharing your experiences and perspective.

Student Ambassadors Support several calling campaigns throughout the year which it involves calling future applicants to talk about Swansea University or Graduates to see what they are doing now. 

Corporate Events take place across the University and the City Centre throughout the year, providing Student Ambassadors fantastic opportunities to get involved. Swansea Science Festival is an example and takes place annually. It is the largest free festival of its kind in Wales and sees researchers exploring the depths of the sea, land, air, and space with events taking place across a series of themed zones. Corporate Events also include Varsity, Summer Ball and have previously included Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend. All of these have been paid opportunities for Student Ambassadors to work, giving a diversity to the roles that are available.

Throughout the year, the Student Recruitment Office arrange several visits to the University from various schools/colleges. These include primary and secondary schools. Student Ambassadors are required to conduct campus tours and assist with accompanying the groups during sessions.

The Student Recruitment and Admissions Office recruit staff to work in the Summer Months during the busy Confirmation & Clearing Period. It is the time of year when the Admissions Office processes all Swansea University applicants’ examination results and receives thousands of phone-calls from applicants who are looking for a place through Clearing. They look for current undergraduate and postgraduate students who will be available during August to be part of the team dealing with the telephone queries and to greet visitors, advise applicants of the process and promote the University. 

Each year, the Student Recruitment Office send students back to their High Schools and Sixth Form Colleges to talk about Student Life at Swansea University. These presentations usually last around half an hour and are timed to fit in with the University holidays. The Student Recruitment Office will arrange all the details for you, provide full training and a template PowerPoint Presentation.

Student Ambassadors have provided admin and clerical support to several departments Such as Employment Zone, Admissions, Accommodation office, SRO (Student Recruitment Office). Work in these instances vary from supporting tasks and projects, data entry, handling queries.

This is a messaging system that allows prospective students to chat to students in higher education. Your profile will be on the Swansea University Website and will be highlighted during key events, such as Open Days, for prospective students to message you with their questions. Share your experiences and build your confidence when speaking to new people.

The Swansea Employability Academy run annual employability events to help Student find work experience opportunities and chances to earn more money. The Student Ambassador Scheme helps support the set up and delivery of these events under the supervision of the Employment Zone Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with Employers outside the University and reflect on your own Career aspirations.

Not Every applicant are able to attend Open Days so often they will contact the department to arrange a visit to see the Campus and facilities. Department will call on Student Ambassadors to provide campus tours to visitor and give the Applicant & Family a chance to ask question about Student Life and course/Faculty experience Student Ambassadors also can be called upon to provide Campus tours to External officials and Senior Leaders of the University.

A Sub Scheme is a group within the Student Ambassador Scheme that work repeatedly with specific projects or activities. These sub-schemes often require a further recruitment process as to ensure that the successful applicant have the necessary skills or experiences to support the projects or activities each scheme is involved with.

Whilst successful applicants of these schemes will have their work directed by the sub-scheme supervisors and work closer with those departments, they are still Student Ambassadors and are line managed by the Student Ambassador Scheme Manager, they are still bound to the Professional Services Values and the Student Ambassador Code of Conduct. 

Support the Digital Marketing Team with creation of digital content. Content such as Youtube Vlogs, Instagram takeovers, and support the creation of social media content used to support student recruitment. This acts as a dedicated sub team within the Student Ambassador Scheme where Ambassadors can work on their own digital projects showcasing what Swansea and the University have to offer such as food outlets and activities, tours of the wider areas etc.

Set in the heart of Swansea University’s Singleton campus, Taliesin exists to enrich the cultural lives of individuals and communities across the region, presenting arts experiences for audiences in our spaces and on the streets of Swansea. We believe in access to the arts for all and that arts and culture are places for collaboration, participation, (re)invention and learning. If you do too, we want to hear from you. The Arts Ambassador is a new and varied role that will help us rebuild our connections with audiences and communities post-COVID. It is ideal for anyone interested in working in the arts and culture or working within the charitable/ third sector in the future.

Work with the Swansea University Enterprise department and support the Enterprise team by highlighting the service they provide. So, what is Enterprise? To be enterprising is having the ability to make things happen. The Enterprise team runs a variety of events and activities throughout the academic year to help students gain an entrepreneurial mindset, adopt entrepreneurial behaviours, and learn enterprise skills. These traits are sought after by employers, giving students a competitive advantage in the labour market, and providing them with knowledge on how to start their own business. 

Work with the Academic services team by providing front of house support on graduation date. Help take graduation portraits and speaking to graduates. 

Join different focus groups hosted by a range of departments across the University ranging from Estates to Marketing. Have the opportunity to share your thoughts and opinions on a range of topics. 

The Summer School is a residential course aimed at students aged 16-17 who are interested in studying Specific degrees in the future. The course allows the students to experience a flavour of the different disciplines that we as the University offer, with the discipline activities spread across several days. The students will also get to experience time away from home in a University setting and have the opportunity to enjoy the social events we arrange for the evenings.

This is or both internal and external events. Be selected to represent Swansea University and the Student Ambassador Scheme at events such as conferences and information fares. 

Support Academi Hywel Teifi and other departments in highlighting the range of Welsh language opportunities available in the University. Ranging from the promotion of Welsh-Medium courses and research offered by the University. Support the academy in its promotion of its core themes – Learn, Develop & Celebrate – as it works to ensure a greater status for the language in all aspects of the university's life and in south-west Wales.

Work with the International Development Office and GoGlobal to create marketing content to support recruitment campaigns in your home countries. Speak about your journey to the University and experiences whilst studying here. 

Have a opportunity to join photoshoots and appear in the University's future collateral and recruitment/advertisement campaigns.
