Welcome to Swansea University and the School of Psychology!

We are delighted that you have joined us for your degree.  Over the next few years you will be learning about a whole host of interesting factors in human behaviour from staff who are passionate about their subject and experts in their field.  You’ll also learn about yourself, develop and demonstrate your skills and hopefully have some fun along the way -  – the journey starts here!

As a student at Swansea University, you will have the opportunity to engage with industry, take on placement opportunities and complete work experience, so that you are fully equipped for the world of work when you leave us. This process is facilitated by the Swansea Employability Academy (SEA) which aims top provide careers advice and employment opportunities all under one roof.

Swansea Employability Academy is a central resource for all students and graduates of Swansea University, offering one-to-one careers advice, internships, bursaries, employer events, a digital jobs board and an online Career Development Course.

As an undergraduate student you will be given a Academic Mentor. This is a member of teaching staff in the Faculty or School who acts as your key point of contact while you are at Swansea University.

You should meet with your personal tutor one-to-one at least once every Semester.  You may also be invited to group meetings or workshops with your Academic Mentor.

Your Academic Mentor will guide and support you with your academic, professional and personal development.  They can help you with:

• Reviewing your academic progress
• Accessing academic and personal support e.g. with welfare issues
• Understanding the exam and assessment system
• Academic references for placements / job applications
• Answering any other questions you may have or recommend where to best seek advice

Mentors may also have ‘office hours’ when you can see them as well.  You can email your tutor if there is something you want to discuss and/or to arrange a meeting.

As well as subject specific support by college teaching staff and your personal academic mentor, the Centre for Academic Success provides courses, workshops and one-to-one support in areas such as:

• Academic writing
• Maths and statistics
• Critical thinking
• Time management
• Digital skills
• Presentation skills
• Note taking
• Revision, memory and exam techniques
• English language skills (if English is not your first language).

In addition, if you have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), disability, mental health or medical condition, the Centre for Academic Success have Specialist Tutors to support your learning, working alongside the Disability Office and Wellbeing Service to support all your needs and requirements whilst studying atSwansea University.

The Psychology society society is now back up and running after being put on hold during Covid.  

The society hosts regular socials, ranging from nights out and non-drinking socials in and around Swansea to trips in the local area & further afield!

They offer the opportunity for you to get the most of your uni experience by offering the chance to get to know your course mates and meet true friends while at uni. It is always important to have a good balance between work & pleasure, hence why we run the regular socials, as well as trips & days out in & around Swansea!

Uni is for making friends and having fun, as well as studying – get the right balance, the psychology balance.
