Welcome Week for September 2024 will take place from 23rd – 27th September 2024, with a range of events taking place each day. Effort should be made by you to attend all events listed within the below timetable.

Events are a chance to gain insight to your chosen degree programme, ask questions and get to know both staff and students in your department. We look forward to meeting you!

Please see below for a list of events organised by your Faculty and new Department. For some sessions, there are multiple opporutnities to attend. If you don’t think you can make it to the session we have recommended for your programme, make sure to check if there is another chance during the week.

25th September 2024

This day has been kept free to provide you an opportunity to attend the Student Union Fresher’s Fayre. Please note, this Fayre is taking place at the Swansea Bay Sports Park on Sketty Lane, not at the Bay Campus.

26th September 2024

09:00 - 12:00 - Check-In for all MSc Engineering Students - A019, Engineering Central

Ahead of your main induction and training day on Friday 27th September, all MSc students in an Engineering programme are asked to pop along during 9am - 11am on 26th September to complete their 'Check-In'. This will include self-enrolment onto several canvas modules.

Prepare for this session:

  • Ensure you have completed your online enrolment.
  • Bring your personal laptop if you would prefer to use this rather than a University laptop.
  • Collect your student ID card.
  • Check-in will take approximately 20 – 30 minutes. If the room is full please be advised you may need to wait until a PC is free.

11:30 - 13:30 - Diversifying Voices - B001, Engineering Central

Join the Faculty EDI team for pizza and Zine making as you receive an introduction to the diverse community you are joining within Science and Engineering.

12:00 - 13:00 - An Essential Guide to Your Studies - B004, Engineering Central

Come and meet your Faculty Student Experience and Information Team who are here to support you throughout your studies. This session is an opportunity to explore the support available to you as a student and any questions you may have about studying at the University. 

13:00 - 16:00 - All Faculties Welcome Fayre - Atrium, Engineering North

Find out more about ways to get involved, access support when you need it and make sure you have everything you need in place for your first week of teaching. There’ll also be chance to take part in competitions and get some freebies.

27th September 2024

09:00 - 10:00 - Welcome from your School Education Leads - B001, Engineering Central

Your School Education Lead, Professor Cris Arnold will provide an introduction to the Faculty.

10:00 - 11:00 - MSc Computational Mechanics Welcome Talks - 103, School of Management

Your MSc Coordinator Dr Rubén Sevilla, will offer an Introduction to your MSc in Computational Engineering.

12:00 - 13:00 - Engage with Support - Roles, resources and responsibilities as a Postgraduate Taught Student - B001, Engineering Central

In this session we will be taking you through your responsibilities as a student and providing you the opportunity to ask questions.

13:00 - 14:00 - Lunch & Networking - B001, Engineering Central

An opportunity to network with staff and your peers. As part of this session, we will be providing lunch to include a variety of options for those with dietary requirements including Vegetarian, Vegan and Halal. If you have an allergy (e.g. nuts, gluten), please let us know by no later than 12pm on the 18th September by completing this short Microsoft Form.

14:00 - 17:00 – ‘Your MSc Skillset' - Workshop with the Centre for Academic Success - B001, Engineering Central

The Centre for Academic Success will be putting on a bespoke workshop for Engineering Students, helping to highlight and enhance the soft skills you'll need throughout your Postgraduate Degree. This session will have a focus on communication, team building and discussion. It is recommended to bring your personal laptop if you would prefer to use your own equipment.

17:00 - 17:30 - MSc with a Year in Industry Talk - Engineering Programmes - B001, Engineering Central

For those starting an MSc with a Year In Industry, please attend this session with Dr Vasileios Samaras who will provide an overview of what to expect throughout your programme.
