PGR Awards: Celebrating our PGR Community

The PGR Awards are an opportunity to recognise the hard work and accomplishments of people across our PGR community. From academic excellence, to public engagement superstars, from staff who go the extra mile, to PGRs who focus on building their community and bringing people together.

Some of our awards are decided by judging panels as part of university-wide competitions such as 3MT, while those below are based on nominations from our PGR and staff community.

James Callaghan Research Award:

This prize recognises the outstanding achievement and progress of current postgraduate students. The winner of the James Callaghan Research Award is awarded a £2,000 grant to support their research and development and a runner up is awarded £1,000. Students who currently hold a scholarship are not eligible for this award.

James Callaghan Thesis Prize:

This Prize recognises outstanding theses that have been submitted. There are two prizes available, one for a Doctoral Thesis with a value of £1,000 and one for a Master’s Thesis of £500.

Students must be nominated by their supervisors for the James Callaghan Award/Prize, by means of the nomination form for the respective prize. Supervisors can access the nomination forms via the staff webpages here.

PGR Culture and Community Awards:

These awards recognise the people who make a meaningful and positive difference to PGRs at Swansea by improving research culture, community, and the overall experience of PGRs at the university. There are two categories of award: one for PGR students, and one for professional services staff (who are not academic/research staff).
