The Notetaking and Support Worker Scheme is run by the Disability Service. Notetaking support has been in place for many years, and has now grown to accommodate the needs of the increasing population of disabled students.
If you require Notetaking or a Support Worker and this has been recommended as part of your Needs Assessment, it is essential that you contact us as soon as possible.
How can Notetaking and the Support Worker Scheme help you?
- Notetaking Support – your Note Taker will attend lectures and take accurate, comprehensive notes, which will be sent to you by email within 48 hours of the lecture, seminar, tutorial having taken place. Notes will be handwritten or typed in the preferred format and style of the student.
- Sighted Assistant – will provide sighted assistance to visually impaired students to familiarise the student with the campus layout. Providing one to one mobility assistance to a student with a visual impairment helping them to navigate their way around campus. Meet student at an agreed location on campus and to accompany to lecture.
- Lab/Workshop Assistant – To provide assistance to students in the laboratory environment. To support the student in conducting and setting up experiments under instruction from the student. Following instructions from the student to prepare laboratory materials and specimens, prepare samples under instruction for testing and analysis etc. fetching and carrying Laboratory equipment.
- Reader/Scribe - Provide reading support to students. To read academic texts aloud to the student or to record whilst reading. To read work back to the student and to assist with proof reading.
- Practical Support Assistant – This role will help students organise their study and workload and assist students with time management such as timetabling and preparation for exams. The Practical Support Assistant can support the student by carrying books/bags and carrying equipment.
