Pharmacy Induction

Dear Students,  

We are delighted to welcome you to Swansea University. We look forward to meeting you on campus.   

Induction for both MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy students and MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy with a Preparatory (Foundation) Year students will begin on Monday, 21 September 2026. The pharmacy-specific induction for MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy with a Preparatory (Foundation) Year students will take place on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

During induction, we will introduce you to the course and you will have the opportunity to meet your personal academic mentor (personal tutor) and other members of the Pharmacy Team. We will also highlight some critical information about DBS and Occupational Health checks that prepare you for your first-year placements. These sessions will run alongside social activities where you can meet other students on the course. There will also be a number of professional activities including a session with the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association.  

You are expected to be available from 21st September (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) (from 26th September Pharmacy with a Preparatory (Foundation) Year students) for Freshers’ activities and introductory sessions. It is anticipated that most sessions will be in-person at the Singleton campus.

As well as subject specific support by college teaching staff and your personal academic mentor, the Centre for Academic Success provides courses, workshops and one-to-one support in areas such as:

• Academic writing
• Maths and statistics
• Critical thinking
• Time management
• Digital skills
• Presentation skills
• Note taking
• Revision, memory and exam techniques
• English language skills (if English is not your first language).

In addition, if you have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), disability, mental health or medical condition, the Centre for Academic Success have Specialist Tutors to support your learning, working alongside the Disability Office and Wellbeing Service to support all your needs and requirements whilst studying atSwansea University.

As an undergraduate student you will be given an Personal Tutor.  This is a member of teaching staff in the Faculty or School who acts as your key point of contact while you are at Swansea University.

You should meet with your Personal Mentor one-to-one at least once every Semester.  You may also be invited to group meetings or workshops with your Personal Tutor

Your Personal tutor will guide and support you with your academic, professional and personal development.  They can help you with:

• Reviewing your academic progress
• Accessing academic and personal support e.g. with welfare issues
• Understanding the exam and assessment system
• Academic references for placements / job applications
• Answering any other questions you may have or recommend where to best seek advice

Tutors may also have ‘office hours’ when you can see them as well.  You can email your Personal Tutor if there is something you want to discuss and/or to arrange a meeting.

Throughout our degree programmes we work to provide our students with opportunities in and around your School, the city with our industry partners and sign-post for international opportunities available to you. This process is facilitated by the Careers and Employability team who aim to provide careers advice and employment opportunities all under one roof.

The society for student pharmacists and students who are intersted in Pharmacy. As a society, we aim to integrate all students who are studying Pharmacy from all years.

This is to bring a sense of community to the Pharmacy school. We will be able to do this by having social events throughout the academic year.

Membership is only £5 for the entire academic year. With this membership, you have access to our socials, revision groups, support groups and access to our social media groups.
